What We Do
We do everything in the name of cleaner production
The Eco-Benefits Programme is one of the major activities of UCPC. The Programme started in May 2002 and 40 enterprises from across Uganda have so far participated.
Eco-efficiency is about finding innovative approaches to producing more value with less input of energy and material, and with reduced emissions.
Eco-Design involves examining a product’s entire projected life-cycle and identifying measures that can be taken to minimize the environmental impact of the product throughout that life-cycle.
ISO 14000 refers to a series of international standards relating to EMS. It is a specifications standard used for auditing. Companies successfully completing the registration process are considered Registered.
The role of National Cleaner Production Centres is to promote the Cleaner Production strategy in Enterprises and Government policies, in harmony with local conditions, and to develop local capacity to create and meet Cleaner Production demand throughout the country. NCPCs’ aim primarily to transfer know-how, not just to transfer technology.
UCPC works with enterprises to identify evaluate and implement Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production measures for improving their processes, products or services.
Through training in resource ( water, energy and raw materials) efficiency, UCPC builds the internal technical capacity of staff in the enterprises in RECP and related concepts
Adapting a Cleaner Production strategy will instantaneously improve your competitiveness, thereby facilitating your access to (inter)national markets, by securing your license to operate by applying to (international) legal requirements and standards establishing a methodology and culture for (ISO or other) certification.
By reducing the amount of raw materials and energy required improving your yield (better quality, thus less waste)
By reducing your waste streams and (disposal, management and environmental) costs more efficiently using our - well-trained & experienced - staff (improved productivity)
By increasing your throughput times and speed to market ('first time right')
(inter)nationally by demonstrating responsible care
